Abstract:Radio and television broadcasting of music in the United Kingdom is presented. There are three national music radio stations, and there is no national independent radio network. The historical background of broadcasting is outlined. Data are presented about the BBC radio networks music output. The shares of all listening are discussed. Radio pop charts are described. The music and light entertainment output of BBC television is analyzed. Different channels are compared. New broadcasting media are outlined. A major market breakthrough is expected when television can produce the quality of stereophonic, digitized sound for sophisticated music fans.
