Abstract:After a brief literature review, the major concepts of systems theory are introduced. Their application to international management is illustrated by using a hypothetical example drawn from the recent interaction of Japanese and Korean firms. The interaction between socio and technical subsystems across systemic levels is investigated: from organizational to supranational. If the supranational system is defined globally, then the regional subsystem can achieve a total negentropic movement, i.e. more international strategic paths from which to choose. Although the "theory" derived is reduced to tentative ideas, it makes for an interesting sociological or sociotechnical approach respectively.
