Abstract:Eastern European manufacturing faces obstacles for competitiveness in responding to changes arising in the transition to open markets. For many Eastern European firms, coalignment of priorities is currently inadequate among three areas: new competitive standards, strategy for quality, and human resource participation. Using survey data from Romanian manufacturers the authors illustrate some reasons for misalignments and formulate research propositions involving coalignment for the transition into competitive markets.
