Abstract:The strategic importance of quality in current competitive markets has been recognized. There has been difficulties in communication within managers, customers, and researchers with no universally accepted definition of quality. In this article quality definitions are described and organized into a continuum with illustrations of definitions. The impact of each descriptions upon the attainment of a sustainanble competitive advantage for the firm is described. This continuum can be used to help understanding the relationship among quality definitions.
