Abstract:The software industry has not yet been affected by the "quality revolution" that has swept over manufacturing industries in recent decades. W. Edwards Deming, a pioneer of the revolution, has noted that companies currently doing well are in a favourable position to improve quality. These companies also have the greatest obligation to improve if they wish to maintain their good fortune. Quality has become an integral aspect of software development and its importance is likely to increase as competition intesifies. In the race for the the softaware market, the road to success will pass through the field of quality and the victors will be led by people who have adopted a philosophy of quality and acquired a system of profound knowledge advocated by Deming.
