Abstract:This paper considers how transport planning has changed, and is likely to continue to change, because of concerns about the impact of traffic growth on the global and local environment. Central to these concerns is the issue of emissions from transports and their impact on air quality. the paper considers how this change in attitude has been reflected in national land use and transport planning guidance. It considers the implications of this at the local level, using Cambridge, UK, as an example.
