Abstract:The general thesis of this paper is that entrepreneurship has an interest in conceiving the core of its research as developing local knowledge through "writing narratives". Comparing itself to more established disciplines, entrepreneurship as an academic discipline has been captured by the dilemma between becoming a straight and classic academic discipline while celebrating the excitement and general difference of the field, implying the creation of an identity of its own (Steyaert, 1995). It is argued here that, instead of pursuing a nervous search for "progress", the field may be helped by patient creation of an identity of its own, giving space to alternative research scenarios.
