Abstract:The author of the article answers the question whether corporate governance can be measured. Existing rating methods are reviewed and a new approach is proposed. The main purpose of this paper is to examine the most important corporate governance rating systems and to compare the various components and methodologies. The first part of this paper explores the importance of measuring corporate governance and then provides an overview and comparison of existing rating systems at country and firm levels. The authors then go on to discuss some critical remarks before the conclusion when the authors describe further research opportunities.
