Abstract: | The ASP or rented application market has a chequered history. Rooted in the idea that renting an application protects the user against outdated technology, industry analysts believe spending will be flat this year, but there is a much more powerful argument that augments the cost discussion. The author of the article states that to rent or not to rent, that is the question. But as he finds, where SMEs are concerned, there's no easy answer. The author states that it's impossible to find a vendor capable of offering solutions to SME market - despite the marketing rhetoric. The paper considers the following topics: passing over, reality bytes, tunnel version, prudence and potential. |
