Abstract:In the information technology (IT) sector of Germany there persists a gender gap. Especially in small enterprises, women are almost completely unrepresented in the ... German software industry. This article offers an overview of the German IT sector's development and its current status, discussing the construction of expertise (here as: exp.) and gendered (as: g-ed.) meanings in software development (as: s-dev.) etc. Gender stereotypical assumptions about exp. in the practice of s-dev. and structural factors related to the lack of life-work balance programmes, and the lack of internal training in most IT companies, contribute to organizational segregation.
