| Abstract: | The Hug is fourth in a series of epic poems about Charlemagne adapted from French for a German reading audience and dating from l500. The article offers a literary critical analysis of the text and concludes that history assumes new meaning in the fictional text each time a culture choses an old story to give expression to a new message. |
