Abstract:Western-trained managers bound for China will find no shortage of job offers. California's gold rush in 1848-49 sparked the first grat wave of Chinese emigration to the United States. Immigrants in the 19th century arrived hoping to strike it rich in San Francisco, aptly named "mountain of gold". Today many young Chinese see a degree from an American university as their ticket to success. Upon graduation , though, the fortunes to be made lie increasingly back in China itself, particularly in the growing number of joint ventures in Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangzhou.
