Abstract:Internet technology has created unlimited information access, and now companies are using its architecture to connect disparate islands of information. Of course, employees could still communicate with each other by computer before the proliferation of intranets. For instance, they would send an E-mail message or swap word processing files on a local area network. But intranets are cheaper and more efficient than other electronic alternatives, particularly for companies with numerous and far flung employees.
