Abstract: | This paper examines the highly topical question concerning whether the French model of capitalism is becoming more like the Anglo-Saxon model. This issue is important not only since it implies fundamental changes in the French economy, but also because many of these would represent a perhaps unwelcome challenge to deep-rooted beliefs and principles held by many French people. The article first seeks to establish the principal characteristics traditionally associated with both capitalist models, a vital step if one subsequently to identify potential aspects of convergence. The remainder of the article then takes the form of an examination of the two competing schools of thought that exist regarding the matter of whether the French model of capitalism is indeed becoming more like its Anglo-Saxon counterpart. |
