Abstract:Bullying is a common phenomenon in organizations nowadays, and the diversities of workplaces have led to increased occurrence of status inconsistency. The authors examine the status inconsistency theory and the predicting power of it regarding occurrence of bullying in group contexts. The potential effects of bullying on the work dynamics of the group as well as on the group performance are considered. The key notice in the article is that group member’s intense emotional feelings of stress related to status inconsistency can cause the bullying behaviour. The authors conclude by introducing some implications for management, so that they could address the bullying problem among groups. Also directions for future research on bullying behaviour in groups are proposed.
