Abstract:A computer-assisted monitoring system to assess performance appraisal system is presented. The focus of the system is to promote discussions between supervisors and employees on job responsibilities, standards and performance. The goal is to promote good communication in an atmosphere of mutual trust. The chief traits of the system are: defined responsibilities of the supervisor and the employee regarding appraisals; no standard format is specified; draft appraisals are discussed with the employee, employees have the right to add written comments to the appraisal, and to formally request administrative review of the written appraisal; the line manager is responsible for the quality of the performance appraisal.
