Abstract:Characteristics of project-based work are summarized. The project life cycle is analyzed. A great number of project critical success factors are listed and their interdependencies are sketched. Strategy and tactics in project implementation are defined as they should be balanced over time. Four possible combinations of strategic and tactical performance (low and high) are analyzed. Case study illustrations are given for each of these combinations. 1. The new alloy development. 2. The automated office. 3. The new bank loan setup. 4. The new kitchen appliance developments. These case descriptions suggest practical implications for managers.
