Abstract:Goal setting seems to have its strongest effect on an individual's performance and task strategy quality for jobs having low task complexity. The importance of two potential moderating variables, job experience and task component complexity is examined in describing and explaining the effects of goal setting on task performance. The results support the hypothesis that task component complexity would moderate the effect of goal setting on performance.
