Abstract:Strategic planning plays a key role in blending both short-term and long-term plans to achieve corporate objectives. Strategic plans for the 1990s must balance acceptable financial performance with preparation for the inevitable changes in markets, technology, and competition as well as in economic and even political factors. To overcome the natural bias for the short term, strategic planners must devise plans and develop measurement criteria that meld the positioning of the business for long-term value enhancement with the achievement of near-term objectives.
