Abstract:The individual future orientations of decision makers have a crucial role in the strategic planning process. The phenomenon of time-flow and the way how an executive views this temporal dimension assume particular importance in strategic planning. The stress is on the subjective or psychological concept of time and not the planning horizon or clock-time. Empirical research insights established that individual business executives differ in their future orientations. Planning horizons should be included in strategic analyses in tandem with planning objectives. The need will be for the corporations to foster future operations, but to avoid the trap of mere exploitation.
