Abstract:A nationwide survey of managers and their values, which was conducted ten years ago, is briefly reviewed. A recent study, involving over 1,500 managers, replicated this earlier research and revealed that certain values were enduring, while other values were changing. Personal characteristics important in leaders for today's managers were honesty, competency, broadmindedness, dependability, and forward-looking. All these were important for managers surveyed ten years ago. Among the emerging new values were found: quality, customer service, personal needs, quality of life. Some implications of this combination of changes and constants in managerial value-perception are considered.
