Abstract:Films are among the most visible and accessible artifacts of modern popular culture, serving both to reflect and to generate social values. Since 1957, accountants have appeared as central characters in 16 popular films. Through three dramatic functions - humor, characterization, and plot development - the author examines the way film-makers have adapted the serious, technical world of accounting to the production of mass popular entertainment.
