Abstract:Via case studies of IBM, Syntax, Libbey-Owens-Ford, and a highway patrol it is presented how these companies incorporated subordinate appraisals into their corporate appraisal system. It is described how Syntax uses these appraisals to develop its managers. Libbey-Owens-Ford, on the other hand uses them as a way of changing managerial behavior in order to further corporate plans. It is supposed that properly implemented and monitored subordinate appraisals can be a meaningful source of feedback for the whole organization.
