Abstract:In 1990, COMERICA, the Detroit-based bank, received 9,000 applications for home mortgages. About 13 percent of the white applicants were rejected. For blacks, the rejection rate eas 43 percent. And at banks across the country , blacks were turned down for mortgages at a rate, on average, 2.4 times higher than whites.
