| Abstract: | Since 1950, the working hours have been regularly reduced in Germany. The German trades union movement was able in the 1980s to obtain agreements aimed at achieving a marked reduction in weekly working hours from 1995. The article is about the terms and conditions under which these agreements were made. Also, the disparities in social and economic performance between eastern and western Germany and the the impact of unification is explored. |
