Abstract:This article aims to empirically examine the relationship (hereafter as: r-ship) btw. communities of practice (CoPs) and performance (here as: perf). Through a case study of several CoPS within a multi-billion dollar construction project, interviews, surveys, and company records are explored. It is found that three CoPs operating under stable conditions exhibit improved perf. However, one CoPs experiencing changes in its communication channels (as: comm-chls.) due to a physical move was never able to regain its previous ability to continuously improve, indicating a strong r-ship btw. comm-chls. and performance.
