Abstract: | A risk matrix is developed to evaluate Eastern European countries for business opportunities. It includes the economic and political risk profiles of Eastern European countries of the former Eastern block buffer zone, i.e., Albania, Bulgaria, the Czech and Slovak Republics , Hungary, Poland, Romania and the countries of the former Yugoslavia. The risk matrix is based on the economic and political environment and performance of these countries in the recent years. The four economic risk factors include international trade balance, overall balance, government debt and gross domestic product, and price stability, inflation and exchange rates. The political risk factors include political history under communist regime, transition process and present political structure, and public/international support and national unity. |
