Abstract: | Since the early 1980s there has been a striking change in the relative perspective of both the boundaries of the firm and the nature of the competitive environment in which the firm operates. Growing evidence of the increased incidence of collaborative activity between firms from advanced market economies began to suggest that the stereotypical view of the firm as a "monolithic entity", operating as a closed, internalised administrative system in a "competition only vacuum" was a paradigm in need of revision. |
