Abstract:Despite major economic setbacks like runaway inflation and disquieting jobless rates, Romania is trying to steer towards modernity and is busy restructuring its political, financial and media institutions. One such industry that is reorganizing is television broadcasting, where major investments have been committed in recent years. The purpose of this article is to establish a profile of the Romanian telecasting industry by presenting its major players. This encounter of the first type describes how the market arena has evolved since the end of communism and provides an understanding of the rivalry among competing firms in this industry.
