Abstract:Using a size moderated stakeholder model and applying it to a company's adoption of proactive environmental practices, this article examines the development of stakeholder theory. The findings indicate that smaller companies are more responsive to value-chain, internal and regulatory stakeholder pressures. These results propose that researchers assessing organizations and the natural environment should be careful about associating stakeholder pressures directly with companies' environmental strategies. Rather, the relationship between stakeholder pressures and environmental strategy varies usually with size.
