Abstract:This article compares two discourses that are connected with “producing” two types of subject in a UK Bank. An enterprise discourse highlights responsible, customer focused team players that use their initiative, whereas a Fordist discourse see employees as mechanical beings who repetitively process work. The main questions in this qualitative review are how the Fordist discourse represses the enterprise discourse and how it comes up in actions of managers. The analysis shows limits to the power that management is able to exercise through enterprise.
