Abstract:The company mission (basic beliefs about a company's ultimate goals and their written forms in a mission statement) is a subject that is increasingly important and discussed. In 1989 for instance, in 56 per cent of all German firms investigated were found such documents, 22 per cent of the companies had made some efforts to develop their own mission and 14 per cent of the firms participating in this study had been planning to take up this subject. In many cases, however, empirical evidence was found that the chosen steps of developing a company mission had been often misleading. The different ways of the process of development of company mission are described and their strengths and weaknesses are shown.
