Abstract: | Historically, loans have been private, flexible and heavily negotiated with the borrower. "The loan market is still relationship-driven," says one banker. "There are some exceptions. There are a handful of borrowers who don't care who's going to be in their syndicate or who the agent bank will be but they are a small minority. If you've got some debt in the bond market, you're just another piece of meat." As the secondary loan market is associated with distressed debt sales, corporate treasurers are often reluctant to see their loans traded. |
