| Abstract: | Every tool in our management kitbag goes through a familiar cycle that starts with an initial phase of being conference 'hyped', and finishes with the concept beginning to be discredited by its successor initiatives. One of these tools of the trade is, of course, benchmarking, and now is probably a good time to try to step back and examine its merits objectively. Benchmarking too has its detractors, and it is from their perception that the technique is examined. |
