Abstract: | The development of the organization proceeds in three stages: the entrepreneurial stage; the process of transition; the maturity stage. Each has a specific character which is determined by its goals, structures, and commitments. As an organization gets nearer to its maturity stage, shifts in emphasis are taking place from product and market concerns to administrative or organizational concerns. Specifically, it moves from an external to an internal emphasis. Structural components of large-stable organizations in their steady state are listed. The drawbacks of hierarchical organization are analyzed. Supportive measures to generate higher productivity and entrepreneurship are mentioned and the role of service orientation is stressed. |
