Abstract:The effect of goal difficulty and use of business strategies on firm performance was examined using a complex, strategic management, computer simulation. It was found that the setting of challenging personal goals is positively related to performance, and is positively, though weakly, related to the degree of use of an effective strategy. Strategy moderates the goal-performance relationship, with this relationship being stronger when an effective strategy is used. Strategy is positively related to performance. The effect of strategy on performance is stronger than the effect of goals on performance.
