Abstract:South Korea's government has banned its businesses from investing in North Korea , at least until the nuclear-weapons crisis is resolved. That's upset the big conglomerates, which are keen to prepare for the possibility of unification. And while they wait, foreign firms are beating them to the deals. Since 1988 business es in the South have been allowed to trade with the North after obtaining permission from the National Unification Board, but the amounts involved are still puny. Last year four countries did more business with the North, including Iran (which imports Scud missiles and exports oil).
