| Abstract: | The upholstered furniture market was worth an estimated £2.2bn in 1998, 3% up on the previous year and 31% on 1994. Fabrics accounts for the larger share of sales but rapid growth in leather has narrowed the difference. Branding in this market is low. Retail distribution is dominated by furniture specialists. Main media advertising expenditure devoted solely to upholstered furniture stood at £2.4mn in 1998. |
