Abstract:This study explores the effect of top management team (TMT) international exposure (henceforth as: int-exp.) on the formation of international alliances (here as: int-all/s). The arguments are developed based on relational capital theory to suggest that top executives with int-exp. are critical to firms' int-all/s. formation. Supporting this view, it is found that TMT int-exp. is positively associated with the formation of int-all/s. Moreover, there is found evidence that the effect of TMT int-exp. on int-all/s. formation is more positive with the increase of the level of environmental uncertainty. The sample of this study includes more than 260 U.S. companies from 14 industries.
