| Abstract: | It is analyzed whether a diversification (herein: dvrsn.) strategy (henceforth as: str.) facilitates subsequent divisionalisation, and thus that 'structure follows str.' and/or whether the multidivisional str. leads to a dvrsn. str. and hence that 'strategy follows str.'. This study is original as to in instituting a debate btw. the Chandler thesis and other perspectives challenging the generalizability of the str.-structure nexus. This new study with new data for the period 1993-2003 sheds light on this discussed issue, postulating that in spite of the criticism of Chandler's contribution, it still works. This paper's results show that strategic dvrsn. affects structural divisionalization (here as: str-divn.) and in turn, str-divn. affects strategic dvrsn. |
