Abstract: | This study analyzes the specific case of subversive glocalisation by combining semiotic strategies and audience research. The study focuses on the Russian adaptation of the television format 'Wheel of Fortune', called 'Pole chudes' (Field of Miracles) (hereafter as: P). A comparison of 'P.' with other adaptations reveals the tensions characteristic uniquely of post-Soviet space. Based on focus group research, the 'P.' is shown to split viewers by class, location and age, with the metropolitan intelligentsia and the narod in the provinces. In addition, it is argued that 'P.' represents a case of post-Soviet identity construction etc. |
