| Abstract: | At stake, by the end of this year, could well be the whole future of the diamond industry. The Russians, according to De Beers, have been flooding the market, leading to a decline in the price of diamonds. The implications, for a number of diamond producing African countries, could be catastrophic. The diamond trade's small, intimate and heavily interdependent world is being rudely shaken by the battle between the Central Selling Organization (CSO, the marketing arm of the South African giant, De Beers), and Russian diamond producers. |
