Abstract:Does emotional intelligence really exist, and if so, can it be measured? The authors report on a study which has found that it is a factor in predicting individual's future career success. Daniel Goldman's book, "Emotional Intelligence: Why It Can Matter More Than IQ" (Bloomsbury Publishing, 1996) was timely, presenting ideas that resonated with the personal and organisational experience of line managers and HR professionals alike. Organizations now have a method of expressing existing levels of emotional intelligence in a way that will help them devise development activities to build on these capabilities in the future.
