Abstract:Taiwan's export trade has been the source of an economic explosion which has transformed the originally poor country to an industrialized country. Because of the political rigidity of the leadership Taiwan financial sector was not allowed to develop as freely as the economy, so the former is still 20 years behind the latter. Now some deep reforms were put into operation: the ceiling of non-business outward remittances was raised from 5 thousand to 5 million dollars/year. Soon it will be legal to buy foreign stocks and bonds, but it will still be illegal to sell by investment banks. But further liberalization is to come.
