Abstract:Two types of competitive strategies are investigated: the cost strategy and the strategy of differentiation. The effects of technology on costs are examined. Economies of scale and some effects of innovation are considered. The role of radical technological changes in cost reduction is compared with the consequences of growing manufacturing experience and savings achieved by using special techniques (e.g. value analysis). The conditions of differentiation, the advantage of being able to use a technology exclusively are discussed. A strategic approach the technology is highlighted. The to choice of technology as an important success factor in competition is assessed.
