Abstract:An examination of moving from an open-plan office to one of two alternative office designs: with partitions around employee work areas or an open-plan office, based on 65 claims from 3 offices of a large insurance organisation with data at 2 points of time. Method: research setting, subjects, procedure, measures - crowding, task privacy, communication privacy, office and work satisfaction, performance, stimulus screening and need for privacy. Relations among the measures and effects of changes in spatial density and partitions on employee reactions and the effects of individual differences. Four Tables illustrate the study.
