Abstract:The reconciliation of history and management over recent years has coincided with the emergence of the notion of corporate identity. The company becomes object of history and it is within it that new social behaviour and new culture are elaborated. In this respect, the company is considered as the main laboratory of social change. The historical approach allows to give sense to the symbolic dimension in a company. In order to understand the identity of a company it is necessary to take into account all those events which have led to the present state. History may prove the validity of the idea, of the strategy, the legitimity of power of a company.
