Abstract:The authors verified the hypothesis that there is a significant genetic component to job satisfaction. Having examined monozygotic twin pairs with a questionnaire, and having formed subscales to reflect intrinsic, extrinsic, and general satisfaction with the job they found that some of the observed variance in general job satisfaction was due to genetic factors. The data indicated significant heritabilities for several of the job characteristics, this supports the hypothesis of a genetic disposition to seek and remain in similar environments and jobs.
