Abstract: | Given the increasing complexity of the technological infrastructure, there is a critical need to build effective working relationships between line managers and information systems (IS) managers. The concept of building partnership as a management strategy is explored. Focusing both on external partnerships (relationships between managers in separate organizations) and on internal partnerships (existing between line managers and IS managers) a descriptive model of the partnership concept is created. Using interviews with executives some important observations are made. (A partnership implies significant costs. It is argued that a transactionlike relationship or a value-added service relationship are viable options.) |
