Abstract:Within the world economy as a whole, the current economic situation differs greatly between the major regions. Some developing and newly industrialising countries, particularly in South-East Asia, continue to exhibit rapid economic growth. Among the triad of large industrial regions - North America, Japan and Western Europe - favourable economic trends are only to be observed in North America. The majority of West European countries remains locked in stagnation or recession. A significant exception here is Great Britain, where recovery is now firmly established.
